Guidelines for Preparing a Test Prospectus

We require that an author submit a prospectus (in either paper or electronic format) to be reviewed by the Editorial Review Committee (ERC) to evaluate the appropriateness of the test for the Institute. In some cases, a prospectus will also be sent to independent reviewers. The review process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks from the date of receipt of all materials.

Your prospectus should include the following information:
  • Working title
  • An overview that includes the purpose, rationale, and scope
  • Theoretical constructs
  • Description of the test, including
  • subtests
  • scores
  • reliability and validity information (if available)
  • administration and scoring procedures
  • examiner qualifications
  • sample of test items
  • Target population/audience and any related marketing information
  • Description of how the test differs from other tests in the same area
  • Curriculum vita for each author
